Basics of Dark and Darker

If you are a newcomer to Dark and Darker the game can be brutally challenging. We have some tips for beginners listed below and how some of Dark and Darker's mechanics work that isn't well documented within the game itself. 


Game Mechanics:


Skill Attributes: 

At the time of this post, the skills are as follows:

- Strength (STR): +Base Health, +Physical Damage Bonus
- Agility (AGI): +Base Move Speed, +Action/Attack Speed, +Equip/Interaction Speed
- Willpower (WILL): +Spell Power, +Buff/Curse Duration, +Base Magic Resist
- Resourcefulness (RESC): +Item Install Speed (not yet implemented), +WPN/Item/Backpack Slots (not yet implemented)
- Knowledge (KNOW): +Spell Casting Speed, +Spells/Spell Count (not yet implemented), +Item Identification Speed (not yet implemented)

 

Extraction:

- Extracts randomly spawn as portals once the death swarm ring starts closing in. Portals appear in single and 3-person configurations. Single portals can only be used by a single player. The final ring will always spawn a 3-person down portal.
-The Blue Portal = An escape portal, extract safely with all your loot.
- The Red Portal = Go down a level to more dangerous floors.

Different Dungeon Levels:
There are currently three levels planned for the game. The current playtests start you off on the middle level which as a 'hard' difficulty rating. The top level with a 'normal' difficulty rating has not been created yet and will be added in the future. You can reach the next level by taking the red "Down" portals.

Special Modifiers on Armor and Weapons:
- Action Speed - Increases how fast you interact with stuff, chest, portals, corpses, etc.
- All Attributes - Increases all stats of your character by number listed. - Agility - Increases how fast your character is.
- Additional Magic Damage - Increases how much bonus magic damage your spells will do.
- Buff Duration - Increases buff duration (Would change how long you're invisible by % listed as a wizard for example).
- Item Equip Speed - Increase how long it takes you equip items you put on your character.
- Knowledge - Increases spell casting speed + Spells/Spell Count + Item Identification Speed.
- Magical Damage Reduction - Reduces the amount of magical damage you recieve by another player by the % listed (meaning take less damage from spells).
- Magical Power - Increase your overall spell power.
- Magical Healing - Increase the magical healing amount you receive from a healing spell.
- Magic Resistance - Basically your magical armor rating. Reduces the amount of magical damage you recieve by another player (meaning you take less damage from spells)
- Max Health - Increases your character's maxmium health.
- Resourcefulness - Increases how fast you interact with stuff, and significanly increases how quickly you install items such as traps and campfires.
- Physical Power - Increases your damage with physical weapons.
- Physical Damage Reduction - Reduces the amount of physical damage you recieve by another player by the % listed (meaning take less damage from weapons).
- Strength - Increases HP and Physical Power.
- Spell Capacity Bonus - Determines how many or the level of the spells you can memorize and take into the game.
- True Damage - Damage that bypasses all armor and physical damage reductions.
- Weapon Damage - Increases Weapon damage.
- Will - Increases Spell Power, improves Buff/Curse Duration and improves your Magic Resistance.
